2014-2015 President's Letter

September 3, 2014

Dear ODNNY Members and Colleagues,

Summer always seems to go by so quickly and it’s September again. Just as students are headed back to school, ODNNY is back to starting another great year of programming!

We will be continuing our theme of excitement, development, and change that we started this time last year. However, before telling you what’s ahead in 2014 – 2015, let’s reflect on 2013- 2014.

Our last year was definitely filled with change including my new role as President. Thank you all for your support, especially the board and committee members who keep the organization running.

The Programming Committee delivered another year of valuable programs on topics such as change management, coaching, and storytelling. Gratitude for last year’s program development and speakers goes to Committee Co-Chairs Cathy Joseph and Jill Logan, and their committee members. We also thank our Marketing and Communications Chair, Cristina DiGiacomo, and her committee members for ensuring communications to our community. Our brand new mentoring program included a day of mentorship training with Dr. Neil Yeager. The training was well attended and 77% of the participants are currently in the ODNNY Mentorship Program. Six pairs or groups of mentorship relationships are well underway.

In July board members AJ Stone, Cristina DiGiacomo, Dora Graye, Elaine Mason, and Jill Logan left the board after serving their terms. I want to extend my personal gratitude to each of them for their time and dedication to ODNNY. Combined they served the organization and community for 12 years! Please thank them for that commitment and service when you see them at a future event. Each of them contributed to the organization we have today.

I am happy to introduce our new board members: Tesmerelna Atsbeha, Anastasia Bamberg, Sarah Lawrence, Amy Pasquale, and Robert Taylor. Three of the five new board members were ‘promoted’ into board positions from one of our committees last year. Check out the Board Members page on the website to find out everyone’s area of responsibility and congratulate them when you see them.

Our website software, long overdue for an upgrade, was upgraded in August. As I write this, we are still working out a few very stubborn errors in the upgraded software code and ask for your patience while we resolve the issue. If you get an error on the website, please let me know. Smaller website changes include an updated menu, website help, and the return of job postings.

Now that you are all up to date, let’s kick-off ODNNY’s 2014-2015 season! We start off the season in partnership with Milano School of International Affairs, Management and Urban Policy at The New School, with our September 29th event, Reimagining Performance Management: An Intervention for Individual and Organizational Effectiveness. Our special guest speaker Matthew Kleinman will trace the design steps, decision points, and outcomes that one company encountered during its performance management redesign journey. The journey is one filled with lessons learned for all of us!

We will be offering mentorship training again in the late fall and accepting applications to join the ODNNY Mentorship Program. If you want to learn more about our mentorship program, please check it out on our website. There are other exciting changes in development and we would love your input to assist us! The first way to help is to fill out our survey which will give us insights into what you find valuable. Another way to contribute is to volunteer. If you are interesting in volunteering, we still have a few spots available on our programming, marketing, and membership committees. Send an email to volunteer@odnny.org to let us know your interest.

Stay tuned for more upcoming programs and changes as we continue to evolve ODNNY. Thank you all for supporting us and your OD community. The board members and I look forward to seeing you at an event soon!

All the best,

Suzanne L Young

President, ODNNY
